Post Hallowe'en Fright: Liberals Propping Up "Approved" Media Sources Through, of All Things, a CRA Approved Tax Credit (The Gall of it All)

As tax season approaches...

Rarely do I post from this source, but it has one of the most plain uses of explaining financial details to the broader masses.  And if you are not frightened by this plain English (although Hallowe'en has already passed), I'm not sure how else to explain.  The $500 Digital News Subscription Tax Credit is an income tax measuresmeant "to support journalism".  Laughable and horrific at the same time.

Not only that, the Liberals have set up, through CRA approvals, have set up a "Qualified Canadian Journalism Organization" allowed to call what is "news" and approve "journalism".

Anyone remember reading that book 1984 in high school?

"...An organization must first be designated as a QCJO to claim the Canadian journalism labour tax credit; potentially have their subscription costs be considered as qualifying subscription expenses for the digital news subscription tax credit; and/or apply for qualified donee status as a registered journalism organization..."

"...The CRA will work with the Independent Advisory Board on the Eligibility for Journalism Tax Measures (Advisory Board), who will review application and make recommendations as to whether the organization produces original news content and follows journalistic processes and principles..."

a 25% refundable labour tax credit for salary or wages payable in respect of an eligible newsroom employee on or after January 1, 2019;

a 15% non-refundable personal income tax credit to allow individuals to claim digital news subscription costs paid to a qualifying organization after 2019 and before 2025; and

extending eligibility for registration as a qualified donee to registered journalism organizations (RJO), beginning on January 1, 2020.

Another Day, Another Liberal Scandal Brewing: Facebook Oversight or Lobbying? Will Canadians Ever Learn?

Here comes the next Liberals' scandal walking straight down Yonge St plain as day.  Still have not learned from scandalous lobbying fiascos of the past...

"...FRIENDS [of Canadian Broadcasting] is alarmed to learn of the cozy relationship between one of Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault’s most senior officials … and Facebook’s most senior Canadian lobbyist,” the organization’s executive director, Daniel Bernhard, wrote in a letter to Guilbeault Thursday.

Of particular alarm for Bernhard is the fact that Chan told Ripley that he was open to hiring public servants who took a temporary leave of absence from their department to come work for Facebook. They could then later return to their public sector jobs.

“Incredibly, Mr. Ripley saw no problem with Facebook’s suggestion that these staffers return to public office after a short stint at Facebook, so that they could resume regulating the company that had just paid them handsomely,” Bernhard wrote to the minister..."

Justin's Selective Apology Process: Apologize for Any Past Wrong, but Not When Your Father is Involved

https://nationalpost.com/opinion/chris-selley-october-crisis-apology-is-deserved-despite-sovereigntists-romanticizing-of-flq

Justin is turning down a chance to apologize for a monumental, dark moment in Canadian history involving Quebec?  Oh right, because his Dad was involved

"...It’s the 50th anniversary of the FLQ Crisis, and the House of Commons is divided on whether Prime Minister Justin Trudeau should apologize, on behalf of the government, for turning Montreal into a police state. Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet moved a motion demanding it on Thursday. The New Democrats support it, while the Liberals and Conservatives aren’t interested....That’s perhaps understandable: Pierre Trudeau is a Liberal saint..."
