"...The initial Canadian appointees generally maintained this standard: Vincent Massey was a well-regarded minister to Washington and high commissioner in London and trustee of the National and Tate Galleries; Georges Vanier was a distinguished and gallant general and a highly respected ambassador to France. Roland Michener was a much-admired speaker of the House of Commons, Jules Leger was a very capable senior diplomat. Since then the only occupant of the appropriate stature to be the de facto chief of state of the G-7 country Canada has become was the gracious and elegant former speaker of the House and cabinet minister Jeanne Sauve...."

Justin Finally Bans (Some) Travel by Making Travellers Pay for "Government Approved" Quarantine Hotel Bill

So many questions

Which hotels? Are they key Liberal donors?

Why just the Caribbean and Mexico? Because it is only aimed at March Break? Why not Florida?

Who actually cancelled travel - airlines or government ?

What about those that have received permanent residency or visas and are expected to fly to Canada  - their country of employment, values, economic, educational, lawful freedom? Do they have the funds to do this? Do they get a free pass?

What happens when the airlines begin to approach CCAA after this ? Are the climate change Liberals going to bail out one of most the polluting industries to save jobs? That didnt happen with the oil and gas industry.

"...The study was requested by opposition parties following media reports that Facebook’s Canadian Head of Policy Kevin Chan had emailed a senior official at Canadian Heritage in early 2020 inquiring about a “promising senior analyst” within the public service that Facebook could hire.

A copy of the emails was obtained via access to information and first reported by Toronto Star.

In his message to heritage department official Owen Ripley, Chan, who previously held top senior advisory roles in the federal government, said that the web giant was offering a “challenging,” “fascinating” and lucrative job within Facebook’s public policy team.

You do not sound like you think this is a grave matter. Do you not find it to be a preoccupying situation?

Chan added that he was open to hiring public servants who took a temporary leave of absence from their department to come work for Facebook. That means that they could later return to their public sector jobs if the department allowed it..."

Green Power Is "Sustainable Energy" - Great, But Cannot "Sustain" a Power Grid

Europe finding out first the limits of "new" and "renewable" forms of energy.

Liberals, Budget, Healthcare System = Mismanagement

"...Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland is preparing a budget she says will be “the most significant one of our lifetimes.” The plan, she says, is “going to be about jobs. It’s going to be about growth. It’s going to be about the middle class. It is going to be about healing the wounds of COVID. It is going to be about building a Canadian economy which is more innovative, more competitive, greener, more sustainable.”

Okay, it’s going to be about everything. Freeland and her boss evidently still see their job as reinventing Canada along the same lines as when they came to office. A day after Freeland spoke, Treasury Board President Jean-Yves Duclos revealed possible legal changes to force more diversity, inclusion and accessibility in public service hiring. Not to disparage diversity and inclusivity, but the Liberals’ compulsion to place bureaucratic parameters ahead of experience, expertise and merit sounds an awful lot like what weakened the Public Health Agency. Would the crisis have been better handled had the doctors, scientists and researchers been displaced by a more diversified brand of bureaucrats?..."

With Programs like These, What is the Real Unemployment Rate of Canada?

As unemployment rates have a .magical calculation that economists and those around a water cooler like to fester about, it is a calculation that relies on fixed inputs such as a given population of those SEEKING work (which must be able to be tracked and measured, that is a Canadian, a resident, a permanent resident most likely on the CRA tax paying list as one way) and the jobs created for that group.

If another supply of "untracked" labour is able to suddenly appear and legally work in Canada thanks to such new policies as these, then should the unemployment rate be adjusted higher for those jobs filled that are not  against those who were part of the fixed "seeking work" group?

In other words, if one job is filled by an individual that is a new entrant and not part of any statistics or a fixed "seeking work" group should that not be negatively reflected in the unemployment rate somehow?

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has repeatedly voiced plans to “build back better” coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, largely through increased spending on a raft of social, environmental, and industry programs.

How We May Know How Many Are Actually Living in Canada: The Answer Is Vaccinations

As the federal government increases the number of "immigrants" to +400,000 annually (which includes permanent residents, international students, work visas, spousal reunions, parents and grand parents reunifications...anything but  new citizenships) and preaches that our economic recovery will rely on this, we are never told just how many are living in Canada - Canadian or not.

There is  number around 36 million proud and happy passport holders (how many are Canadian beyond just paying taxes is unknown, how many are dual citizens is unknown) of which say almost 1% are living abroad in HongKong alone as ex-Pats.

However, no one in Canada really knows how many are living in its borders. The federal government will never tell you how many residents are in Canada (whether legally or illegally) in addition to its lucky citizens for political correctness fears of putting the spotlight on that number that Canadians deserve to know.  It is information.  Well, now we may know.

The rollout of vaccines calls for everyone in Canada to be vaccinated, citizen or not.  And paid for by Canadian taxpayers.

Yes your vulnerable parents may be in line behind someone that has not paid a dime of tax or been in the country for less than a year.

With the amount of vaccinations doled out, and making some assumptions for those that will never have one, we can start to calculate and understand the actual population of Canada amd not just its passport holders.

The Pere and Justin Trudeau Prophecy is Now Complete...Little Regard for the GG Office Fulfills the Fourth (and Final?) Defining Factor of His Father Before Him

I wondered how the photo op loving Justin complete with his everyone-must-admire-me attitude would fulfill the last outstanding one, and now we know.

As written previously on this forum, Pere Trudeau was known for: i) an underwhelming economic knowledge or care for it, ii) alienating the west though the Petro Canada formation and debacle, iii)  deteriorating US relations (to the point Nixon is caught on tape referring to Pere as an "#ssh_le"), and finally, iv) cheekily did a pirouette behind the Queen's back that was caught by a photographer and she later saw his disrespectful attitude anyway.

Economic Recklessness: This time, Fils Trudeau straight out of the blocks paid little disregard for deficits even in non-depression times and ran on an election promise (yes a promise) of an annual $10 billion deficit.  Here we are at least 45 x times that on annual basis.

Alienating the West: In crushing the oil and gas industry through various legal, approval and consultations means did not have one MP elected in the prairie provinces.

Annoying the US: Not just dealing with a volatile leader of the world's most powerful country but poking the eye of the beast by not only making inflammatory comments and reneging on things said as host of a world economic summit, Justin sends Freeland to say some of the most toxic messaging...on America's soil!

Irritating the Queen: This was the last shoe to drop and it was appearing like it would never happen, nor ever expected to happen. But the resignation of a Governor General is yet another black eye on Justin. How can such simple and appropriate due diligence on an individual of such symbolic and historical importance be so fallible?  The question must be asked, how long did the Liberals actually take to vet her?  Yes there are politically correct parameters and agendas to satisfy (it is an appointment after all). Not entirely his own doing, like his blackface episodes, but it has happened under his watch - irritated the Queen.  You don't have to watch all four lengthy seasons of The Crown to know, like many of her family members over time,  Justin has fallen out of her favour.

It is now complete.

Canada's Governor General Resignation: Look at What it Has Lead To Beyond Another Black Eye For Justin

 Another black eye for Justin

It seems lately either admonishing significant Canadian history, figures/leaders and events, or Canadians consumed by democratic events of other countries while, perhaps the worst, Canadian apathy of its own definitive institutions is increasing. Quite scary really.

Obviously Canada's Express Entry System is Not Working

Previously our Minisyer of Imagination on his way out the door left with some kind and encouraging words that Canada is a "deficit of talent" and there are 220,000 tech jobs unfilled in Canada. In a world of 8.6% unemployment and job losses in the millions for 2020, its impossible this is true.

As such, even if it were true, then the following and above mentioned data demonstrates that Canada's Express Entry program matching labour needs to quicker permanent residency is mathematically a fail.

"...Under the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan, Canada aims to welcome an average of 110,000 immigrants under Express Entry per year. IRCC uses Express Entry to manage skilled worker applications for the following three programs: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class....

Chronic Situation of Thousands and Thousands of Unfilled (Tech) Jobs In Canada: How Can This Be?

https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/navdeep-bains-work-to-transform-canadian-economy-unfinished-as-he-leaves-politics

A chronic situation of thousands and thousands of unfilled (Tech) jobs In Canada. How can this be?  The sources of these ludicrous claims are never mentioned but these nefarious numbers, usually around the 50,000 mark, have now grown to a "220 000" claim (in a world of 8.5% pandemic unemployment?) just as a new and aggressive increase to immigration numbers has been announced by the Liberals. That and the always proportionately growing aging population and the pension benefits required to be paid. If these numbers are true then how has an institution, Canada's most sacred, that has attracted, recruited and allowed so many millions of entrants into Canada to address these issues, missed the mark and failed so miserably?

"...“If you look at the last five years, Toronto and Vancouver have recruited more technology workers than San Francisco, and Seattle combined.”

...“Canada has a massive deficit of talent there’s about 220,000 positions that are currently not filled in tech, because we just don’t have the domestic capacity.”

"...The latest Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) data shows that the country welcomed 15,300 new permanent residents this past November. While this figure is an improvement from previous months, immigration to Canada remains low due to the pandemic.

In a given month, Canada usually welcomes around 25,000-35,000 new immigrants. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen this figure fall significantly since Canada imposed travel restrictions in March 2020.

In the first 11 months of 2020, Canada welcomed 174,000 immigrants. On the balance of probabilities, Canada’s intake for all of 2020 will be below 200,000 new immigrants which would be the first time this has happened since 1999. After Four Years Benefitting From His Tweets, Re-Tweets, Likes, Shares and Clicks, Social Media Says Goodbye to the One That Solidified Their Presence in 21st Century

Despite the shocking and awful events in Washington just passed, ironically after four years of benefitting from all his tweets, re-Tweets, likes, angry emojis, shares, podcasts, vlogs and clicks to add more and more subscribers or people to platforms, social media (including this) now kicks to the curb the one that helped to solidify their presence in the 21st century.  After data breaches, accomplices of political interference, spreaders/enablers of misinformation, and privacy issues over the years, social media now have their moment to "appear just".

Big deal. And besides, should not be a surprise. Mostly liberal, Biden fans running these platforms anyway.

"...As prime minister of Canada, he won the first election of 1867 and was re-elected in 1872, 1878, 1882, 1887 and 1891

...He stabilized the banking system, he legislated the legalization of trade unions, he investigated the abuses of workers by industry...he argued vehemently that women and Indigenous Canadians (even those who had been involved in the uprisings led by Louis Riel) be allowed to vote. He was turned down on the last two, but never stopped advocating for it. He ensured that a national enfranchisement law be enshrined so that the right to vote was uniform across the country.

...Macdonald won the support of the people all through his 47-year political career, and when he died in 1891 he was as most popular as he had ever been... That’s why statues in his honour were erected in Montreal, Kingston, Toronto and Hamilton within years of his passing. He was the peoples’ favourite.

...He was not a dictator or a bully; he knew too well that those tactics would not cut the mustard in this country. https://financialpost.com/diane-francis/diane-francis-re-politicizing-cpp-would-be-a-disaster

"...The bill would prevent CPP from investing in Canada’s largest exporting industry, as well as in the 10 biggest companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange, he added. “The NDP considers (corporate) profits unethical.… Excluding profitable companies from the pension plan’s portfolio guarantees the impoverishment of Canada’s pensioners.”..."

 https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/feds-weigh-cutting-covid19-benefit-for-travellers-as-canada-surpasses-600000-cases

But Employment Minister Carla Qualtrough said the government is “actively looking at all options” in the face of questions over whether Canadians who have travelled abroad should be allowed to collect the money..."

Is Rock Music Dead? Ask The Biggest Icons About It

KISS continues to soldier in the world of rick with a recipe that has stood the tests of time. However, they are a shrinking breed

https://loudwire.com/kiss-world-record-pyro-gene-simmons-rock-is-dead/

"...For Simmons, one big difference he harped on was the ability of an artist to write their own songs and play their own instruments. "You know, the modern artists rely so much on technology. You may not be able to recognize the artist if they record themselves singing in the shower. You’d be shocked," explained the KISS icon, "And none of the rappers play instruments. Don’t write songs. They write words. But chords, melodies, harmonies and stuff. It doesn’t mean that rap isn’t important. It’s very important. But it ain’t the Beatles."..."

Pandemic Times: 47,000 Provincial Nominees "Invited" to Canada

By the numbers (47,000).  And nothing stopping someone who arrives in NL and all of a sudden wants to head to Toronto.

https://www.cicnews.com/2020/12/2020-was-a-big-year-for-canadas-pnps-1216644.html#gs.ozcru3

"...The PNP is an immigration program jointly administered by the federal, provincial and territorial governments. It offers Canadian provinces and territories the opportunity to create their own immigration streams to better meet their labour market needs and economic development objectives. The PNP also aims to spread the benefits of economic immigration more equitably across Canada.

The disproportionate number of immigrants going to Canada’s largest provinces, such as British Columbia, Ontario or Alberta, explains why the country introduced the PNP. One of the main objectives of the PNP is to encourage immigrants to settle in smaller provinces and move to less populated regions of the country..."

Year In Review: Canada's TSX

http://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/we-re-33-tsx-ekes-out-gain-in-pandemic-ravaged-2020-1.1542686

"...Toronto’s benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index plunged 37 per cent from peak to trough, then clawed its way back to post a 2.17 per cent gain in 2020. That’s good for 33rd out of 92 major global indices, with the TSX sandwiched between Malaysia and Norway in terms of total 2020 returns, but badly lagging the 16 per cent return on the S&P 500 as surging tech stocks turbocharged the bounceback south of the border.

Here’s a look at how things played out on the TSX in the most tumultuous year in recent memory. Returns are as Dec. 30 closing levels.

Sir John A. MacDonald: His "Complicated" Indigenous Relationship

 https://nationalpost.com/entertainment/weekend-post/chris-knight-ill-make-resolutions-but-i-want-some-from-the-new-year-too

"...By 1885 Macdonald had accepted the reality of even his closest First Nations allies wishing to retain their Indian status. As he explained in the House of Commons on May 4, 1885, “They prefer to stick to the clan system, just as, until lately, in my own country, the Highlanders stuck to their clan system in the highland of Scotland. They desired not to be severed from their brethren.”

Macdonald’s outlook toward the First Nations was complex, and cannot be easily summarized. The contradictions of his policy included his ferocious repression of the Indigenous Peoples of the North West immediately after the unrest of 1885, while at the same time extending the federal franchise in central and eastern Canada to adult male status Indians who met the property requirement, without the loss of their Indian status..."
