After weeks of being in the Quebec papers, the English media has refused to touch this one. The Liberals (once again, for their own benefit) ABUSED THE INSTITUTION OF IMMIGRATION to ramp up the YES referendum vote in 1995, directed by Chretien. Not on merits, economic needs or other requirements and benefits.
The institution of Immigration should be taken out of government hands (at least the Liberals' hands) and made an independent institution like Bank of Canada, Courts based on merits, economic needs/cycles, infrastructure, existing population and within a reasonable and plausible growth path. And should be disclosed in election platforms, not on the fly.
