"...A Canadian senator has urged the Senate not to condemn China’s record on the Uighurs, arguing that Canada has its own history of genocide.

"...Sen. Yuen Pau Woo also said the Chinese are happy with their government — more happy than Canadians are with their own.

In a speech on Monday, Woo asked his fellow members of the house of sober second thought to vote against a motion that would condemn the genocide of the Uighur Muslim minority and call for the 2022 Olympic Games to be moved from Beijing if the genocide does not end, saying it “does not add any actionable measure specific to the Uighur situation in China; it is simply an exercise in labelling.”
