CFL Week 4: CFL's First Covid Cancellation

Edmonton at Toronto: Not Played
As fans and the league look to understand the rules regarding covid cases, the amount of cases on the Elks was too much to even think about coming east, cancelling the start of Week 4.  It was in the books as a tie days before the game but we await whether there will be a deferred game...or not.

Montreal at Hamilton: Hamilton wins 27-10
With all the pressure of finishing first this year after its last crushing Grey Cup final loss, Hamilton has started the year 0-2.  Dane Evans gets the call to fill in for injured Masoli, and he gets the job done.  Montreal's Adams Jr., although always brimming with excitement, could not get it going.

BC at Ottawa: BC wins 24-12
The return of previous coach Campbell who joked on radio he may robotically end up heading to his previous home Ottawa dressing room.  The heavy rains came out on full force; however, touchdowns did not.  A kicker's duel to start followed by a QB sneak late in the second quarter by "don't-call-me-Mike" Reilly.  Not much going for Ottawa on behalf of Nichols with suspicion of an injury.

Calgary at Winnipeg: Winnipeg wins 18-16
Despite enjoying home field advantage thus far, Calgary is only sitting at 1-2, with their only win coming from back up Jake Maier. Andrew Harris' return made his mark early in landing a touchdown (but a missed convert).  A tight game, with a losing last second field goal attempt, handing a tight, low scoring affair to Winnipeg.  Calgary at an unfamiliar 1-3 to start the season (two games with Bo and two games wihout).

First Nine Days = Four Major Gaffes: Liberals Becoming Desperate and of Course Lashing Out Healthcare and Abortion Lies

After Justin admits he doesn't think of monetary policy, then a double whammy: after bashing the Conservatives’ vaccine position, it turned out — oops! — the Liberal policy was practically identical and the timing of self serving election and the Afghanistan fiasco; now an altered video that even Twitter - yes Twitter - has called out. With this many gaffes the Liberal drinking game is on!

Canada's Housing: A "Supply Problem" or a Mis-Managed "Demand Problem"?

According to CEO of CAPREIT interview on BNN, 700,000 international students alone are in Canada (nevermind the other categories of working visas, temporary foreign workers, post-graduate students, permanent residents in waiting, family reunification/parents/grand parents programs, refugee claimants, provincial nominees and other annually recurring programs) and all looking for accommodations.

Yet Canada has a "supply problem" is what Canadians are blindly led to believe.  Isn't that a poorly managed "demand problem"?

Immigration policy to have responsible housing policy? Or Housing policy to have responsible immigration policy?

CFL Week 1: Finally, after 621 Days, "Our Game" Kicks Off and What a Week it Was!

Hamilton - Winnipeg: Winnipeg Beats Hamilton 19 - 6

Anytime a team beats Hamilton this author is happy.  Showcasing the scrambling Collaros as well as cameos by Streveler, Winnipeg dominated with another local boy #20 Oliveira as a man on a mission filling in for Harris.  It was great to see this game kick off the long-awaited start of the 2021 CFL season.  Snowbirds, fireworks, a Grey Cup banner unveiling.  Does it get any better! Great catch by Ackland to start for Hamilton but wheels fell off after the Banks fumble.

BC - Saskatchewan: Almost a comeback, Saskatchewan barely wins 33 - 29

As I listened on satellite radio, I knew the beyond comfortable lead held by Saskatchewan did not mean "game over".  An unfortunate set of surprise circumstances for the young rookie Canadian Lions Quarterback in the first half.  However, Reilly stepped in ot the latter half in a curious fashion and almost mounted the comeback.  Unfortunate due to the missed field goals missed by Japanese rookie Yamasaki, the CFL's experiment with global players.  Look forward to seeing Rourke with a week's worth of prep.

Toronto - Calgary: First time in 10 years, Toronto wins in Calgary 23 - 20

It also seemed even longer to be the first time it opened the season with a win!  Usually starting the season in the usually stronger Western Conference, Toronto now posts a rarely seen 1-0 start.  A brilliant close game with the Argos opening up the scoring and the Quarterback carousel being held down by Bethel-Thomson...for now.  Perhaps all the ex-Stampeders and coaches rubbed off and helped the Argos gain an edge.  Charleston Hughes was an aggressive beast for the Argos resulting in penalties.  Stamps took a lead followed by a blocked kick before the second half followed by a punched out ball and fumble on way to a touchedown by #2 early in the third quarter.  Calgary had to settle for field goals; however, a rare fumble by the Stamps, recovered by Hughes led to a big touchdown by the Argos Gittens, his first and biggest.  A two point convert t toie it up followed by another march up the field resulted in the winning field goal with 40 secondds on the clock.  An Argos interception sealed any possibility of a comeback.

Ottawa - Edmonton: Where did this Ottawa defense come from? Ottawa wins 16 - 12

Getting used to Elks versus Esks will take some time.  To complete the (almost) Week 1 of underdog wins, Ottawa shows up from nowhere compared to teams past and shows some definsive brilliance including a goal line stance in the dying seconds of the game to hold on for a win.  An early touchdown pass that was just out of bounds didn't count and could have made the difference for Edomonton.

An easy sack by Ottawa's Awe followed by the first of trading field goals - a 52 yd field goal by Ottawa to tie it up at 3 showed Ottawa is no pushover.  Then some trickery on a kickoff return by Ottawa, but unfortunately the lateral was not lateral, and called back.  9 - 6 at the half with only kickers making the points.   A big interception by Ottawa in the third lfollowed by another led to a pick six and the first touchdown of the game in the 4th.  With Ottawa leading 16-12, Edmonton could only march up in the dying seconds, with no time on the clock and a winning drive in the making, Ottawa stops the drive on the goal line with no time left.

This is going to be a wide open year for the CFL with the Western Conference looking shaky.

Do Canadians Not See The Patronizing, Scheming Virtuousity the Liberals Exude? This Time, With People's Lives

Just in time for an election...is this not blatantly obvious to Canadians how patronizing, scheming the Liberals really are? This could have been conducted properly much earlier or at any other time, but no. Wait until the eve of an election being called and make them pawns in their virtuous plan. . @marcomendicino

Interest Rates, Inflation, Housing: Can You Have Rising Prices (Including Tax), No Growth From Too Much Tax(es), Yet Continued Low Interest Rates?

As even the taxi drivers know, housing is hot in Canada an it is due to low interest rates.  Why are we here?  Taxi drivers know due to the economic shock of lockdowns from the covid pandemic.

There is rampant speculation as to when interest rates will increase and Canadians, permanent residents, non-Canadians, non-residents are trying to purchase before that happens.

Should this group be keeping its eye on inflation (as the signal for interest rate increases)? Or (fade up eerie music) keep its eye on the actual inflation from....(dum dum daaaaaaah!) TAXES!

No doubt just to pay back this statistically significant, way out of its bounds, deficit (if we return to normal spending, nevermind mind blowing debts Canada is racking up and may have to), taxes will need to be raised.  Be aware of increases to: housing tax on multi-million dollar homes, increased provincial land (and municipal) transfer taxes on every home, increased electricty taxes for electric vehicles (you honestly do not think the government is going to let that gas station revenue stream disappear, do you?), punitive carbon taxes, wealth taxes, corporate taxes.

As such, everything will become more expensive, effectively inflation.  If taxes makes everything more expensive, yet keep a lid on consumption and growth, then will interest rates have any association with inflation? Will interest rates' usual role as the inflation fighter continue?  If not, and interest rates remain low, will housing prices continue to rise - in a no growth, high cost of living, high tax environment?
