Liberals' Parliamentary Budget or Economic Update? As a Minority Government, Liberals Have Managed to Avoid Oversight, Committees, Transparency (Oh Right, Liberals Don't Like Committees)

"...If the Department of Finance can produce an Eaton’s catalogue of spending plans, gender moralism and green initiatives, and conjure up an additional $100 billion in future stimulus spending on top of a deficit that could end up being as high as $400 billion, why, oh why, could it not produce — hold your breath — an actual budget? As Parliament requires. A budget, lest we forget, is absolutely central to the functioning of a parliamentary democracy.

Well, the obvious reason is that what the country got this week was a budget, but camouflaged for political convenience as an update. This was done in order to exempt it from the seriousness, consequences and oversight of an actual budget. You know, oversight, debates, committees, etc.

This government is executing the greatest spending splurge in our history with a half-closed Parliament and while refusing to table an actual budget. Consider the irony of being the government that spent the most money in history, and the only one not to table a budget. This is Alice taking up residence in the rabbit hole..."
